I guess the Gold Coast is one of the most famous places in Australia. Australia is one of my dream destinations to go to one day (maybe in combination with New Zealand). A penpal of mine actually lives at the Gold Coast, so that could be a great chance to go there. She showed me pictures, and it looks so beautiful and relaxing there.
However, I do not know much more about Australia in spite of the the famous big cities like Sydney, Brisbane and so on.
So anyone who is from Australia or has been there, what places would you recommend to visit during a stay??

I spent about five months living on the Gold Coast three years ago. I loved it more than I imagined I would. In fact, I am planning on moving there after I finish school in June.
I really liked:
Whitsunday Islands/Airlie Beach nightlife on the Gold Coast Fraser Island Surfer's Paradise

For sure, Australia is a wonderful place to visit!
Gold Coast even If the location is becoming too much touristic. Queensland state owns very good goals for a visit:
To discover a wonderful landscape, an incredible beach (the 'four mile beach'), go to the little city of Port Douglas nearby Cairns. Ship visits to the Great Barrier Reef are possible!
Fraser Island with the famous Elie Creek. You stay at the City of Maryborough and also can join the Central Station, especially if you enjoy treks and walks doing the 'Fraser Island Great Walk'.
We also went to Mackay to do some walks in the Eungella National Park.

These places are located in Queensland state. And as Australia is a giant country, you have some more places to visit!! two ones I myself visited -Tasmania Island and Hobart city. -New South Wales state: you leave Sydney (after visiting this special city, it is a must see!) and you can discover the most beautiful National parks as well as the famous Blue Moutains. (will start a new thread with NSW!)
