I have never lost my luggage. Not that I fly much or anything, but I feel like I'm always hearing these airport horror stories that I have never seen nor experienced.
I assume the likelihood of this happening is more on connecting flights, which I've never had...could this be why I've been so lucky? Or are most of the stories just exaggerations?
So who has lost it?
Did you eventually get it back?
Do the airlines pay you anything for losing it?

We lost our luggage coming home from Egypt. Actually it was stolen (our small carry-on) when we had to check it in Egypt but it did get to NY's Kennedy Air Port. So when they switched planes to Delta is when it got lifted. Not sure where, but when we got to Houston, they didnt have it or one of our other pieces. The other piece came in the next morning but we never saw the small carryon. it had a lot of our souveniers in it, and I am sure that the person who took it just couldnt resist.
The Travel Company we were with (Grand Circle Travel) gave us what we paid for the things, but I forgot all that was in it, and I really should have asked for the replacement cost. oh well, live and learn.
The only thing I can say, that we have only lost one piece in all our travels, (refer to Off Topic post to see how much travel we have done).
your ever lovin grannie

I was flying to Minnesota for a meet and my luggage didnt arrive until about 1 am. It had my uniform in it and I was in panic mode. It also had all my other stuff because the idiot at the checkin refused to let me carry this small piece on the plane - he called my judges bag and my purse the two pieces. I told him I could put my purse in one of the bags, but he refused!
I got a knock on my hotel door at around 1 am and I was pretty upset about everything.
