I guess I should move forward some and get into organising my travelling for this summer....
The most important thing for me is to get the big flight booked somehow. I never booked a flight on my own before - I always had travel offices do this for me. But this time I only need the flight.
I know I can book via the websites of the airlines. Doesn`t seem to be the cheapest way - but maybe the most secure??
How did all of you do when it comes to booking a flight?? What are your experiences here?

I've always found booking through the actual airline websites IS cheaper than going through a third party.
For example, I often fly Continental, so check their websites daily when I'm getting ready to book a flight. Sometimes the cost is high, but if you happen to check at the right time you can definitely get a good deal.
Searching on Expedia or some similar site will give you options as to what airlines will fly the route you need, so I often check there first then go to the individual websites to see the price difference.
As for more secure...as long as the website is https:// and not just http:// then I'm all good!
