I am planning to fly over to the USA this summer and visit friends. Actually they are coming up with a program of what we will do and see during the time I am there and all. But it will be the first time I go overseas, and I am going to have to travel on my own. So I wanted to see if anyone has tips and hints for me generally about what to care about!? I want to organise things early if possible so that I am ready and prepared. The excitement of the travel alone will put enough of a load on me I guess....

It depends where you are planning on going. I would recommend big cities out East or North for architecture, food, options, and a sense of the modern city and American diversity. Big cities are quite different in Europe and the United States.
I love New York, for example, but if you want something less urban and more beach vacation, I'd recommend coastal California, or something on the Gulf. If you like nature and want to hike, Yosemite and Yellowstone are musts.
